I finally managed to Break the Code! :P

IF you-don't-follow-my-blogs OR you-don't-remember-stuff THEN
URL.refer (http://mrdigerati.blogspot.com/2010/02/this-is-what-i-did-on-v-day.html)
:-)

oops!
END IF;
// Yeah Some PL/SQL *HIT I'm into these days. Sucks?

Anyway! Coming to the point. I looked for answers like almost everywhere and couldn't really find even one...! Finally I went deep and mined some stuff, similar issues that the gamers were facing. Hail Loki.

ISSUES:
#1 (regular usage)
#2 (using x86 emulation)
The program returned an error code (1).

Anyway. 'linux32' should've ideally worked but .. . . there was more.

WHAT I DID TO MAKE OALD7 run:

#1. To run 32-bit apps on 64-bit Linux, you first need to install these prerequisite packages:
$ sudo apt-get install ia32-libs ia32-libs-gtk ia32-libs-sdl dpkg-dev

#2. Then I downloaded the i386 package from the Ubuntu site.
libGTK1.2: http://packages.ubuntu.com/jaunty/i386/libgtk1.2/download

#3. Deflate (Unzip/Un... hmm... Deb?) the libgtk1.2_1.2.10-18.1build2_i386.deb (right-click and extract) and then go inside the folder hence created. Deflate data.tar.gz and go inside ./usr,
$ cd libgtk1.2_1.2.10-18.1build2_i386/usr/lib (in short)

#4. Now we need to copy the files (lib? Modules?) to the location where OALD7 desires to find it!
$ sudo cp -v -i * /usr/lib32

#5. Try installation now. [ERROR. still?]
(Even after that another library was required)

$ linux32 ./installation.sh

Verifying archive integrity... All good.
The setup program seems to have failed on x86/glibc-2.1

#6. Then I downloaded two i386 packages for the Ubuntu site.

libGLIB1.2ldbl: http://packages.debian.org/lenny/i386/libglib1.2ldbl/download

Follow the same procedure (#3-5) for libglib1.2ldbl_1.2.10-19build1_i386.deb

:D and voilà .. . :P this is what you get! Don't kill me :P
Cheers!! and do leave comments! :P

Update: Yearbook09 is a book we informally (not with the college's support)... created (designed)... advertised... published.. for our final year engineering students in 2009 (as a memoir of all our college life). Of course it would not have been possible without the contribution of the batchmates... we took a nominal fee (rest came from the efforts of the marketing team) and provided them with the published book.
300 copies were published in a batch of 450 students. Trust Me that's a lot. :P
The book contains:

Contact info of each and every student (section-wise)

Profiles (saving their current state of mind.. as "accomplishments, future-plans, I'll always remember.. and general comments") written by them [this is going to be fun some years down the line]

KNOL-Poll (We had the final year comment about various things relevant to us and give votes for various titles like "Mr Handsome" and "Miss Attitude")

GroupPages (for sharing the fondest memories of your friend-circle with the world)

Articles/ Poems to keep the spark and the theme alive!

Chronology (all the eventful events happened during our stay)

College ka Map with legend :P

Buddy Pages

Societies/Clubs etc

Class Awards.

To look at the individual pages (preview) please visit the Picasa Album.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11512968556243296559noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35980606.post-27581075598630989982010-04-17T06:12:00.000-07:002010-05-08T08:18:11.891-07:00Earlier Today...
Viewers Discretion is advised.

[Content Below can Bore you to DEATH!]

well well... :P

I tried a lot to search for a certain someone called bai...!! :( but none of the bais thought it'd be safe enough!! :-/ [No Shiney Mentions here please.. I'll get touchy]

[We are 4 guys in a 3BHK! :P Brand New!! If you care i can totally flaunt more! hehe]

On second thought.... Do we look this ugly :( !!

Anyway... I thought instead of waiting for this "Inta paisa mein inta-etch milega" types Bai... (you know by now.. everyone in the neighborhood knows we need one :O ... so do the security guys...) I put the wiper and Domex (Jo mujhe Virasat mein Bhaiya/Bhabhi se mila hai) to good use.

WHAT THE HELL!!?? :D

[Glad you asked...!]

The mission involved motivation and initiation (and a hell lot of VELLA-giri) and how can I forget the wiper [due regards]!! It all started this afternoon... when Batra was just leaving.. and I was getting exhausted from excessive monitor staring (24 Season4).. MehraJi was relaxing in his Jeans and Anup tinkering with the Rubik's Cube..! I hit the space bar... Came out to grab some water and looked at the floor.. I paused for a while.. when I realized that I could take it no longer. Absurd epiphany and "Leadership by Example" suddenly became very relevant [thankyou Infosys for the word!] and so I began moping the floor...! :P under the Guidance of Mehraji.. I secured the Kitchen...! and soon Anup joined and they took over. Please zoom in AND observe the reflection on the floor!

There was something else going on.... and to know that... here is the background story!!

Well the story dates back to the month of March (2010)... when Bhaiya/Bhabhi were here in Pune (India)... and I had moved in with them in their furnished apartment...! Things were going fine.. even better [think y!].. until one day... [what was i thinking!!?] I asked them to come upstairs and take a look around! "Heinous crime" as I call it. :-/ Since then "Ms Bai" mentions exponentially increased... "I needed one" they said..! "You mean the apartment needs one right??"!

To add to it.. a cousin of mine also joined their side and I was left alone with my Laptop [which is often addressed as my "Wife"]..!

In another exciting turn of events, Mom and Dad scheduled their Pune visit in the month of April (an attempt to have a small family reunion.. which was real FUN btw!). And so it occurred to them to see how is their younger kid was doing [that'd be me]... even though Bhabhi didn't spill the beans [we respect secrets! :D haha.. eachothers']! :| They would have seriously killed me agar woh pahunch gaye hote mere room tak! :P :| so I tried to dodge, change the topic.. false excuses.. everything I could... :P and this one time I even offered them the key to my place.. just to see how determined they were!! :D yielded and yay! .. I came out clean. Hope they'll just see the pictures which I'll "email" them!! [OH! wait.. what if they follow me too!! :O D-Day!]

Well.... if you want it quick.. picture this.... I was generally sitting in a friend's apartment and when I chose to connect to any available network [don't get intimidated by the UI: its Ubuntu 9.10].. It successfully gave me the IP via DHCP and I could open pages... surf web. All Good right? ... not my fault if someone is not using a LOCK in his HOUSE (but doesn't mean that give me liberty to go Steal). I could've acted like a parasite on that connection (eating all their bandwidth) without this poor guy even knowing what's wrong... but what if someone sends a Hate-Mail to the President using your access-point (without you even knowing!! Think: You got arrested for "nothing". Such a Shame!!) or trigger some terrorist activity?
As my brother says... "It-cannot-happen-to-me" attitude is an ego-booster but ignorance is not always beautiful. It actually has happened in India... //TODO quote

So, why go thru all that trouble? There are several measure you can take, choose one and be sure you stay out of it, avoiding anything like that from happening to you. For instance:

You can restrict the Mac-Addresses which can connect to the connection

Otherwise you can have a secured connection, have a password to connect to the accesspoint, without which no machine can't get connected.

Consider this post just FYI. The Term is called Wardriving. [makes sense though]

PS: My other posts below tell us how to ensure your accesspoint is secured connection.
It tells me that "the phone line is busy".

For the utter vellaness of my life... I studied the router manual but heck couldn't find the "next" button (.. :( See PDF) for the first two days [I thought probably my router was a different make and so couldn't follow the advanced settings instructions]. Finally I got the right manual (see PDF again) and got this sudden brain-wave to click on 'next' sheepishly (Mahn! they should tell us on the first page that there are going to be a total of 'n' pages for the complete configuration! X( ..... Sucks!!)

OK. So I kept tinkering, it wasn't a big deal anyway! :P Ah! My Week full of Sundays is about to get over... :( Does that mean.. no more Blogging?? :(

Well what I did was kinda simple... I just logged on the router setup as 'Admin' [opened 192.168.1.1... easy!!] and changed configurations. Reboot the router and wait for it to stabilize.

The Network is now password protected and no need for any PPPoE client :P anymore [it has been set to the PPPoE mode from Bridged Mode], it automatically connects.

[Heyy!! Does this mean that the post below has gone to a waste?? :O ... well Lets just call it a lesson learned.. (wink)]

I read the stuff and found out that this mode separates the Network and our systems providing an internal Firewall (and that's why its the recommended setting). You should totally do that.

Well find below the link using which you can very easily avoid war-driving issues... and get rid of the PPPoE mess...!! Save Time. I even downloaded some "stuff" via Torrents, FTP. Awesome download speed (Whole 700Mb in 50mins. That's news!)!! And of course, there always is this strong urge to fix things!

Connecting from Windows XP via Wireless Anyway the drivers which came along with the ACER Utility/Resource disk couldn't get my wifi running (I knew the Card was okay as it worked just great in Ubuntu). I tried to download every possible driver matching the product name... Even those for Windows7 sometimes :P [all futile attempts]...
Atheros, RALink, Intel, ShirPeak... but nothing worked. I gave up (anyway.. almost all of my time Ubuntu is the sole OS I use, so that didn't bother me much).

Here at the starting the 'pppoeconf' [see the section below] wasn't working right. So had to switch on my Windows for a go. You know what...!!! I even forgot the password..!! [had to resort to FingerPrint Access :P Cool! Futuristic!].. anyway.. I changed it from the Administrator Account later.

I searched online for tools which can update my Drivers and find those for the 'unknown' ones. I found a few links... like:

DriverMax: Sucked Bigtime.. MaxTime. It wanted to force me to make an account before even using it and connect online. Pulchritude is the term!!

Ubuntu9.10 totally supports each and everything on my Acer Aspire 5738.
And performance is Legendary so don't "wait for it" and get it installed in your machine as well.

Everything has become so simple now. I started working on Unix(and derivatives) in 2005 when I got into college. There was no MP3 support... Geekish installation... problems like no USB support... (want to freeze your system??... Just plug in the USB drive!!)... and other issues. Now, they are accompanied by OS-installers which are more user-friendly than the software-installers in Windows itself... and you can even install it as a software inside windows! :) Cool Right?

Ubuntu has always been the number one... and will be. Its debian based distribution. Even with the display effects etc.. it works like the most stable thing I've ever seen.
The package manager gives you each and everything you'd need to add frills to your desktop! java is not there but gcc is! It rocks... is what the blog says anyway.
I'm working inside that only. :-)

The CD comes bundled with almost everything you'll ever need... for Office.. Multimedia or Internet... maybe routine maintenance...!

Think about the Grandpa Windows XP: its some 570MB and can never be of any use if not accompanied by a driver disc or utility softwares. So, why use something pirated when you have something better (serious understatement) for Free!!?

Think about it...! Will edit this post to be a better read.. soon! Hyderabad and Chandigarh. The postings came just minutes before the big [not really] Compre(-hensive examination).
People started calling me in certain scared tone... from the examination hall (you know... I have a reputation to study till the last possible minute) ...to know their posted location. For Some it was good news.. for others it was this constant struggle.. trying hard to concentrate on clearing the 65% bracket.. and context switch to think about all possible options to change to their DC (by swap).. traversing thru all the faces they've ever seen in the campus!
Thank God I didn't have to do that. Pune had been my top preference for ages together... :D
So after the Final Final exam (in which btw I got a big A [Such a Raja Munna I am. Hehe. I managed to get 4.99 CGPA over all]) everyone was kinda poker-faced because of their own issues or they wanted to be with all these top favorite friends who got different DCs.
Finally.. the date of release came: 18-Dec-2009... and we got on board... :P

Mysore mein everyone was fresh out of college. It was probably the best hostel life.. college life I ever had. Anyway.. my college life has finally come to an end. Just like all the other good things. Chalta hai....! New Life... huh!?
Lets see what does Pune has to add to my journey.. ;) ... to
[destination is still unknown. LOL]

Update: I've taken a 3BHK with friends.. (of course on rent..) and currently furnishing it :D
and going office regularly... :PAnonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11512968556243296559noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35980606.post-56723194807378185722009-12-15T06:53:00.001-08:002010-01-03T01:07:09.305-08:00What Is Google App Engine?

Google App Engine lets you run your web applications on Google's infrastructure. App Engine applications are easy to build, easy to maintain, and easy to scale as your traffic and data storage needs grow. With App Engine, there are no servers to maintain: You just upload your application, and it's ready to serve your users.

You can serve your app from your own domain name (such as
http://www.example.com/
) using Google Apps. Or, you can serve your app using a free name on the
appspot.com
domain. You can share your application with the world, or limit access to members of your organization.

Google App Engine supports apps written in several programming languages. With App Engine's Java runtime environment, you can build your app using standard Java technologies, including the JVM, Java servlets, and the Java programming language—or any other language using a JVM-based interpreter or compiler, such as JavaScript or Ruby. App Engine also features a dedicated Python runtime environment, which includes a fast Python interpreter and the Python standard library. The Java and Python runtime environments are built to ensure that your application runs quickly, securely, and without interference from other apps on the system.

App Engine costs nothing to get started. All applications can use up to 500 MB of storage and enough CPU and bandwidth to support an efficient app serving around 5 million page views a month, absolutely free. When you enable billing for your application, your free limits are raised, and you only pay for resources you use above the free levels.

Source: http://code.google.com/appengine/docs/whatisgoogleappengine.html

Me: I think I want to explore the Google API and work on it. Well that's because that's the name we've given to an informal initiative we've undertaken. Our brainchild "Knol" is an online (pdf.. ebook) magazine for the college. Here's the platform where we all send our contributions every month and finally a beautiful thing comes out.

November issue is out. You can take a look at it and give us that valuable feedback of yours.
Thanks.

theknol.digest@blogspot.com
direct-link to see it here or here.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11512968556243296559noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35980606.post-23023391372073749362008-11-22T02:31:00.000-08:002008-11-22T02:53:40.972-08:00This Nokia Series 40 (s40) phone I bought about a month ago has proved my intuitions right in buying it. Its not that I didn't do any research prior to investing 12Gs (grands), but the stuff one can only feel after exploring & exploiting the device to one's own will & whim.. is an incredible sign of awesomeness. (yeah!! the word you're looking for is “whacky articulation”)
[Series 40 is an operating system made by Nokia. Its an embedded software platform, Java based. Series 60 is multitasking Symbian based thing]

So I had this Java(TM) Nokia 3120 earlier and migration to my new Phone has been a piece of cake for most of the thing (moving contacts to SIM card from N3120 & then moving to N5610.. 250 at a time for like 4-5 times & then they show up like nikunjla1, nikunjla2... nikunjla5. Holy Crap!!) except the calendar (you have to manually feed the birthday reminders or any morning gonna be your last!! Lol I still have to input 'em for the first 9months. [seriously, no pun.. or punch.. INTENDED here!]).

Uses internal phone memory of 30MB.

Camera.
Nokia 5610 is one of the best shooters among the series 40 devices.
3.2 megapixel Camera has a variety of modes.
-Video
-Portrait Mode
-Night Mode (works when flash is off)
-Dual-two-LED-Flash (on : off : automatic)
-self-timer (Now the guy who own the phone can be seen in pictures) [3 : 5 : 10 seconds] – Makes sweet sounds every second.
-Image-sequence
-tinker with the While-balance & Brightness.
-Add effects like sepia.. grayscale.. b&w etc.
-Settings

image quality, image-size (1536 X 2048 to 120 X 160)

video-clip-length can be made maximum (depending upon your card's free space)

4 video resolution modes (640 X 480 to 128 X 96)

8x digital Zoom.

Bluetooth.
Its is good and works great. Internal Phone memory of 30MB can be utilized to transfer bulky files via-bluetooth.
It shows progress of sending as percentage when sending a single file and number of items sent while sending multiple items.
Infrared is unavailable.

Internet.
Opera mini is preloaded.
You can even use the default browser which is good.

Multimedia.
5610 enjoys a AIC33/DAC33 chip. It can play music around 20-22 hrs with normal usage. Offers inbuilt support for a variety of audio formats like aac, m4a, wma and mp3.
Videos can be played in mobile optimized formats like 3GP and MP4.

Inbuilt Flash Lite support.
you can make flash applications... swf (shockwave flash).. your wallpapers or screensavers.
How about a drizzle on your desktop! Cool. Isn't it?
You can even make applications to monitor battery or time etc.

Good Java ME support for developers.
supports Java MIDlets, i.e. Java MIDP and CLDC technology.
(I use a free dictionary made by some Maharashtrian[don't get me wrong its no way racial segregation & I'm not a chauvinist]. A Java-archive [JAR file])

A lot of games (But I don't play any... People say they are good. “City Bloxx”.. “Rally 3D”.. “Snake III”... etc)

Sensor (A bluetooth application)... to socialize and make new friends (transfer stuff).

Processor speed is around 234MHz (benchmark) and around 5 MB RAM.
Series40 uses a simpler operating system than the higher end s60 (which is based on the multi-tasking Symbian OS). Because s40 devices do not support true multitasking and do not have a native code API for third parties, its user interface appears to be more responsive and faster than other Nokia platforms.

The catch...
a) you can set any video (playable) as your video ringing tune.
b) you can set different tunes & images for different contacts.

Enhancements:
Thin-pin Charger requires around 1.5hrs to completely charge 3.7V BP-5M Battery.
Battery Backup... 1 -2 days on heavy usage. Minimal usage: 2-4 days.
3.2mm AV-jack (headset). It has a connector to 3.5mm jack (where Computer speakers can also be connected. So no need to open your laptop to hear your playlist)
microUSB slot to transfer stuff to and from the computer seamlessly via USB connector.
microSD (Multimedia Card) expandable upto 4Gigs (GB).

Well finally when I'm with this beautiful thing (which it actually is... Slider.. blue... and Lights!!Sexy... Aaah!! Reminds me of... hmm... wait-for-it... Mirror!!) & having a good time with a 1GB microSD & the microUSB. Well talking about Stuff..........

a) You can play 3GP & MP4 movies in all sizes (QCIF, QVGA) up to this maximum resolution VGA 640X480. (Trust me! You won't need anything more than that for even HDTV viewing).
& all that inside its inbuilt player - “Media Player”. No white bars on side... in full screen view. Video occupies full window.

I've two videos...(allow me to call them Movies...) full blown 80 -90 minutes in 60-70 MB.
“The Secret” & “D5 conference Bill Gates n Steven Paul Jobs”... 3GP (176 X 144 resolution and clear picture). With this incredible[right.. I really love this word.] ability to seek forward quickly to catch up from an earlier time of viewing.
How to do that....!! Well convert any possible media stream inside your computer to 3GP or MP4 through a FREE converter. Just google. I use...

ABC 3GP converter (a3gpset)... [Free] along with...
Avidemux (Klite Video Converter).. [FOSS = Free and Open Source Software]
VCD Cutter 4.0 (Jaio System Ltd.) [Cracked] – (to convert VCD files [.DAT] to MPG)
using Nokia PC SUITE is recommended. It converts them to the best possible format for your handset (You can decide the size or the quality).

b) Offline HTML pages saved through Firefox (web browser).. copied to the phone.. open seamlessly with even Images. Navigation is a hell lot easier. Nokia Series 40 phones now use this Open Source software WebKit (components WebCore and JavaScriptCore) to have support for XHTML.. HTML 4.01.. Javascript1.5.. CSS2 and even AJAX. Kewl indeed.
(Think: you can research on your computer & review it on your phone)

c) I also plan to read some books... (Nay!! Not curriculum) Like Novels.. or self-help-books.
To name a few.. I've started reading..
The Monk who sold his Ferrari (Robin S. Sharma)
Who'll cry when you die (Robin S. Sharma)
State of Fear (Micheal Crichton)
Deception Point (Dan Brown)
The Tao of Physics ( Carpa)
Psycho cybernetics (.... hmm!! can't remember this one. Some plasic surgeon)

okay.. so this shows I start reading and then seldom [get time to] complete. So as for light reading.. I've saved a few ebooks (in TEXT format) inside my mobile too.
the power of concentration
Zen and the art of motorcycle maintenance.

But there was this problem.. It can only read upto 3000 characters and truncates the rest of the text because, it has an Organizer -> Notes Application which can save upto 3000 characters in a note at a time. [My sister's CDMA Nokia has just 300 Characters limit. How Sad!!]
So what I did was I created a command line application in Java to split my text into Crumbs of size my phone allows me to read. (Find that TextSplitter somewhere here).
Now the “Zen” folder has 286 text files numbered 1 to 286. How awesome is that!!!
To ignore the downside.. you can start reading from 1 & keep removing text as you read it. & “copy to Notes” stuff (beautiful thoughts) you want to keep with you.
(Think about an SMS-maniac who keeps a note book [buys books too] to forward messages. He can just copy paste)
Talking of which... Copying Text... & pasting in some other application is entirely handy with option explicitly given. You can mark-text or mark-all.
Talking of which, selecting files.. Marking files (or all files) is also very easy. You can then send these files via Bluetooth... or delete them.. move them... et al.

d) Backup messages.. phone contacts... calendar records.. bookmarks.. user pictures.. memory card's content.. etc. Using NBU (Nokia Backup). You can restore these on account of a phone theft (Take out a minute. Its time to pray to God!!)... or Phone Migration.

e) You can even send messages from your Computer (through the phone obviously via the USB cable)

f) This phone can act like a Modem and you can use GPRS.. or EDGE (Mobile Office) to connect. Use Internet anywhere. Well this time you have an actual keyboard.

g) Transfer music & videos to-n-from phone. Conversion to mobile-optimized audio and video formats is possible.

h) There is some protected mobile content in the memory card which cannot be played without correct access codes. You can we even then extract some content using this method.
- in your computer select any mp4 file and default it to open with KMPlayer.
- now connect mobile via USB in PC-SUITE mode.
- browse and open. The content shows up in your player.
- Now right click on it. Look for an option of Save-As-Video and you are done.
- otherwise you can even capture the video. [KMPlayer is good.]

Problems Fixed...
a) mine is V4.81 (type *#0000# to see it). Earlier versions had this problem to freeze when you receive an SMS while listening to some tracks.
b) .... gotta research more to fill this further... but hey (a) is substantial.
Well you can always update your mobile software yourself through PC-SUITE.. go to “nokia-europe” website. Look for the software updates made to your handset's model. Download & apply. You are done! The problem is Fixed.
